The Past Couple Weeks

I've been bad about writing down stuff my kids have said this week. Mostly because it's been a stressful couple weeks on account of I've been sick and just focused on getting through the day. I have written down a few funny things. Nathan brought me lunch one day last week and my girls went crazy. They had too much fun with him there. Some of the comments made by my awe struck campers include things like "MISS KALEIGH! GABBY SAID SHE'S GONNA GROW UP AND MARRY YOUR BOYFRIEND!" "You're gonna marry him, right?" "He looks like Justin Bieber!!!" "Whoa. Miss Kaleigh your boyfriend is hott!" They were cracking me up. They were beside themselves with excitement. They like to tell me "Hey, Miss Kaleigh. That's your boyfriend" over and over again as if I may have forgotten since the last time they told me 5 minutes before. So funny. SO cute.

One of the campers, Regan Spivey, and I make videos every day of us talking about whatever topic she chooses. We talk about very deep and important things like why people lose their minds sometimes and why boys tell you they are going to get you some punch at a "school party" but they never actually get you any. Deep. She's precious and is like my little shadow during the day. She is so little and likes to hold onto my leg while we walk. I swear I could take her home and keep her forever. Nathan came to camp again a couple days ago, mainly because Heather was getting engaged :))) but he stayed for Rally as well. I introduced him to Regan and she had too much fun with it. I loved this conversation.
Regan - "Nathan. Do you want to know what I do to her (me) every day?"
Nathan - "Sure"
Regan - *squishes my face together* I do this and give her a baby face. I mean it's just so cute."
Nathan - "She's the cutest!"
Regan - "I know I just have to do the baby face because look at her! So cute."
Later that day Regan asked me this: "Is your boyfriend 19 or 15?"
Me - "19 or 15?"
Regan - "Yeah. Those would just be my guesses."
Me - "Well, he's 22."
Regan - "22? Oh. Oh well! I tried!"
She's just too precious and too much fun. Love that kid and Im going to miss her when the summer is over. Im going to miss all of those kids!

My kids have been passing something around the team for a couple weeks now. I dont know what it is, but it makes them throw up. Gross. I had to call lots of parents and send lots home because they were sick and throwing up or sick and feeling like they were going to throw up. Two of the other counselors on the pink team, bless their hearts, had to clean up the bathroom after one of the girls missed the toilet. I cleaned up some off the floor in the team room. After camp was over and I was in the team room cleaning up a bit before I went home, it smelled weird in the room. Really werid. I figured that it was because I had cleaned up barf recently, but it was strong and could not have possibly been coming from the spot I had cleaned up earlier. So I looked around the floor and couldnt find anything. I was about to leave when I saw it. I found the source of the smell. Under a stool of all places. Someone had thrown up under the stool. How they managed that I dont really know, but there it was. So I cleaned it up and Lysoled everything in the room.

I can't believe there are only 4 weeks of camp left. I've had such an amazing time and I love my girls so much! I'm going to miss them so much when it's all over it's not even funny. Can't wait to see them next sumer :) My plan, Lord willing, is to work there again next summer. It's been way too rewarding and way too fun. Loved every minute. Even the minutes I was cleaning up my kids barf or getting on to them. The moment when two of my girls got saved or the moment where they get so excited to see me or, when they tell me they're going to miss me over the weekend, the moments when they tell me they love me are the moments that make all the other stuff worth it.
That kid is too precious and Im going to miss her when the summer is over. Im going to miss all of them. So so so much!

Boys Boys Boys. And a side story about Cheetos.

My girls are boy crazy. They are 5 years old, mind you, with a few 6 year olds. Today a guy who works on the grounds crew (and is a fellow counselors brother) walked through the lunch room and stopped for a minute to talk to his sister. I saw the looks on my girls faces and I knew they were done for. As soon as he left, 5 or 6 of them came running over and said things like this...
"HES SO HOTT! MISS KALEIGH DID YOU SEE HIM?!"
"Hes soooooo hott! So hott I want to marry him!"
"If I was in that room over there I know he'd want to kiss me." (To which I responded "Nooooo we don't kiss boys. They're gross! They didn't agree. Jesus take the wheel.)
"I think he's the awesomest guy I ever seen."
"Miss Kaleigh you HAVE to think he's hott too!"
I didn't really know what to say! I didn't know what the word hott even meant when I was 5. I would have NEVER dared to tell a boy to his face that! They, on the other hand, didn't have a problem with telling him how hott he was and how much he looks like Justin Bieber. (Side note. Any guy with long blonde hair looks like Justin Bieber to them.) Tyler, the other grounds crew guy that makes my girls fall apart, was in the hallway along with the Justin Bieber look-a-like during our potty break. Needless to say they were a tad distracted! Oh my.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
My girls REALLY want me to be married, or at least engaged. They ask me every single day if my boyfriend has proposed yet. Everyday I say no. Everyday they ask if I'll be engaged tomorrow. Everyday I say no. Every single day! It makes me laugh. Here's a funny conversation I had today about this.
"Miss Kaleigh can I see a picture of your boyfriend?"
"Suuuure." (showed them picture)
"Does he love you?"
"Yes he does!"
"Do you love him?"
"Yes I do!"
"Are you engaged yet?"
"Nope. Still not engaged!"
"Aww. Why not?"
"Because! We're just not."
"But you're 18!!!!!" (said in disbelief)
"I knowwwww! That's why I'm not engaged."
"But....will you be tomorrow?"
"Nope."
"The next day?"
"Nope."
"Wheeeeeen?????"
So so so funny.

Here's my random funny story about Cheetos I had with one of my 5 year olds, Morgan.
M - "I LOVE CHEETOS! They are just my favorite. I haven't had them in so long though. Mommy doesnt buy them because she says I'll fill up on them, but Im so happy I got some today beause I seriously loooooove them!"
Me - "Well then Im so glad you got to get some too!"
M - "I haven't had them in thouuuusands and thouuuuusands of years!!"
Me - "Thousands if years?!"
M - "Yeah! Ever since my third birthday I never eaten cheetos since then."
Oh I love Morgan. She is too precious! It's so funny how such a short amount of time seems like "thouuuusands and thouuusands of years to them!

Justin Bieber, Boyfriends, and Freckles

Every single one of my girls LOVES Justin Bieber. Loves. They sing Baby so much that by the time I leave at 4:15, that song is hopelessly stuck in my head. I've had many silly conversations about Justin Bieber over the past two weeks, but these are two of my favorites.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
A bunch of the girls were standing around me asking me how old I was. I told them I was 18 and one of the girls jumps up and yells "DO YOU KNOW JUSTIN BIEBER!?!" haha Apparently since I'm 18, JBiebs and I are besties. They were quite disappointed when I told them that I did not know him.
Here's another funny one.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Amelia, 6 - " Miss Kaleigh guess what!?"
Me - "What?!"
A - "I'm going to Justin Biebers house!!"
Me - "WHAT?! You are? Why?"
A - "Well I writed a lot of songs and my daddy is taking to his house and he's going to drop me off and I'm going to show Justin all the songs I writed."
Me - "Wow! I'm jealous."
A - "YOU WANNA COME?!" (assuming I would say no)
Me - "Yeah!!!" (Knowing she wasn't expecting that answer)
A - ******silence*******
Me - "That would be so cool!"
A - ".................um..................really?"
Me - "Yep!!"
A - "............you're just joking, right?"
Me - "Not at all! I'd love to come. You just let me know when, ok?!"
A - "um.......***silence***.........***walks off***
That made me laugh so much! She thought I would say no to her offer and then I would just think this whole Justin thing actually happened. Boy, did I ruin her fun!! Oops. :)
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Now, these girls also love to ask me about my boyfriend. They've seen pictures of Nathan on my phone, so they know what he looks like! Every time they see me talking to a guy, they always ask if that's my boyfriend. So many funny conversations about this one!
A friend of mine who works on the grounds crew, was doing something by the playground. I had taken the girls who didn't want to play on the water slides to play on the playground. They were playing and I was talking to him. He left and I was suddenly swarmed with curious little girls! They all just kind of stoof there at first. They all had funny looks on their faces. I finally just had to ask what was on their minds. This is how this conversation went.
Me - "Girls, what's wrong?"
Girl - " Um....Miss Kaleigh? Who was that?"
Me - "That was my friend, Tyler."
Girl - "Is he your boyfriend?"
Me - "Nope."
Girl - "Why?"
Me - "Because I already have a boyfriend. I showed you his picture, remember?"
Girl - "But...that boy wasnt?"
Me - "No ma'am."
Girl - "But......why not?"
Me - "Because girls, we're just friends!"
Girl - "But do you at least have a crush on him?"
Me - "Nooooo." (I'm really kind of confused by this point)
Girl - " Well. Does he have a crush on you?"
Me - "No, he doesn't have a crush on me either."
Girl - "Why though?"
Me - "Because we're just friends and I have a boyfriend.
Girl - "and it's not him?"
Me - "Noooo. It's not him."
Girl - "But......but he's so handsome."
Needless to say, most of my girls have a crush on him and giggle uncontrollably whenever I ask them about him. And heaven help me if they ever see him. Mass chaos amongst the 5 year old girls.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Carson, 6 - "Miss Kaleigh are you married?"
Me - "No ma'am."
C - "Why not?"
Me - "Because I'm not."
C - "Well next time will you be engaged?"
Me - "Probably not."
C - "What about the next time after that will you be?"
Me - "Nope! It's gonna be a while!"
C - "Miss Kaleigh. I really wish you were engaged."
Now, she couldnt give me an answer as to why she wants so badly for me to be engaged, but they ask me at least once a day if I'm engaged yet.
One little girl during lunch comes over and says "Is your boyfriend still madly in love with you?" I laughed becuase I wasn't sure where this question came from so I just said yes. She replied with "eww." hahahahaha oh goodness. The same little girl asked me another time "Miss Kaleigh does your boyfriend break up with you, yet?" I was like nope! Still madly in love with me like he was 5 minutes ago when you asked me. :) Priceless.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
These kids ask me the most random questions ever! One of my favorite from this past week is "Why don't brown people have freckels?" This question was coming from a little black girl. I wasn't exaclty sure what to say and so I told her that it was because freckles were already brown, but that some brown people do have freckles. I told her that since Anna's skin was so fair, her freckles showed up very easily. Luckily, she was satisfied with my off the top of my head answer. Sometimes I just don't know what to say to these kids! Keeps my imagination and my comeback skills sharp though that's for sure! :)

Thankful for the weekend and rest, but missing and thinking about my girls! Still thankful for the chance to lead them. Praying I do it well.

Band Aids

There seems to be something about band aids that 5 and 6 year olds love. Maybe I shouldn't have princess band aids. Maybe I should have the boring ones...then they wouldn't look so appealing! It doesn't matter whether there is a river of blood coming out of their knee or if they stubbed their toe. Apparently band aids heal all. Now, I don't want to send a child home and have them tell their parents I didn't give them a band aid when I needed one, but what is one to do in a situation like this....
Madison - "I need a band aid?"
Me - "What for?"
Madison - ***silence***
Me - "Did you hurt yourself?"
Madison - "um...yeah."
Me - "Is it bleeding?"
Madison - "um...no."
Me - "Where is it? Can I see it?"
Madison - "Well...I forgot where it was, but I can find it."
Me - "If you don't even remember where you got hurt then you don't need a band aid."
Madison - "It's on my toe."
Me - "Ok. Which one? Show me."
Madison - "I forgot which one."
To that I told her that she was ok and that she didn't need a band aid. I had to then further explain why the little girl with blood running down her leg needed a band aid and she didn't. I don't know if its the fact that the band aids are pretty or if they just want the extra attention, but there's just something about those band aids!
Random funny side story. Green teamers are too cute. 2nd and 3rd grade boys are too too funny! You never really know what they're going to say. I was waiting on them to get into the lunch room so I could get out. I didn't want to just stand there awkwardly as they passed by, so I was talking and giving high fives. Most of them were high fiving back and talking to me..except for one. He saw me and looked absolutely terrified! He stopped, looked at me (seemingly still quite frightened) said "YOURE DUMB" and ran off. It made me laugh. His counselor then passed me and told me not to take it too personally. It was just because I'm a girl. Boys!
I just love these kids. So much. They definitely make my days exciting and entertaining.
Now, here's a funny video of Jakaiyla dancing with a moustache!

My Girls

Camp has been nothing short of a lot of fun and a lot of craziness. My patience has been tried and so has my imagination. I just wish I knew where these kids came up with some of this stuff! Even though Im sure it was, I don't remember my imagination ever being that good. Here's a few of my favorite conversations from the past week.
Julia, 5 - "Miss counselor?"
Me- "Yes ma'am?"
J - "How old are you? Are you a teenager?"
Me- "Yes I am! I'm 18."
J - " Whooooooooa. You're 18!?" (Some of the other girls chime in with disbelief over how old I am)
Me - "Is that old??"
J - "Yeah. You MUST be married!"
Me - "I'm not married yet"
J - "You're not!? (She just couldn't believe it! How could I be so old and not be married yet?) I'm going to marry Timmy.
Me - "Oh? Who's Timmy?"
J - "He's an older boy. He's in the second grade."
Me - "When are you and Timmy getting married? When you're 16?"
J - "Nooooo silly that's when you get your driving lisence."
Me - "Of course! You're so right Julia. That was silly of me."
J - (giggles) "Im going to marry him when I'm....(thinking very hard)....17. Maybe even a little older than THAT!
Britnee, 5 - (asking me to help her button her skirt) "Oh shoot! I need to lose some weight!"
Me - Britnee. You're 5 years old and you're tiny. You don't need to lose anything. You'll disappear!"
B - " (patting her tummy) "Nuh Uh! Look at it. It's thick as a drum."
Me - "You're silly, you know that?"
B - "I had to get new clothes! I weigh 20 pounds now. (Trust me she weighs more than that!) My cousin use to weigh 20 pounds, but now she weighs 30 so she gave me some of her old clothes."
Me - "How old is your cousin?"
B - "She's 9."
Me - "She only weighs 30 pounds?!"
B - "Yeah. How much do you weigh?"
Me - "Hmm, I'm going to go with 60 pounds."
B - "Woah." ( I wonder what her reaction would have been if I told her how much I really weigh!)
Sadie, 5 - "I'm not coming to camp next week."
Me - "Why not?"
S - "I'm not coming to camp next week because I'm going to Alaska."
Me - "Oh wow! Why are you going to Alaska?"
S - "I'm going to Alaska because my mommy and daddy want to celebrate Christmas."
Me - "Is it Christmas in Alaska right now?"
S - "Yeah. It's Christmas in Alaska all the time."
Me - "Like everyday?"
S - "Yeah. It's Christmas in Alaska everyday. And we're going to let our snow dogs out to play and they're gonna be so so happy because we never let them out, but we are next week because it's Christmas.
Me - "Oooooh I see."
Sometimes it's hard to know how to respond to some of the crazy things they say, but if you just go along with it, you're sure to leave camp with some wonderful stories. I've had more fun the past week just sitting and listening to my girls talk about whatever. I've also loved loving my girls. Being able to talk to them and listen to them and help them have fun and becoming someone they look up to. I love knowing that through my time with them this summer, I'll have the opportunity to impact their little minds and hearts. I'm so excited. Several of them have taken to me and are my little shadows during the day. Those little girls already have a special place in my heart and I love them all. This weekend was much needed. I was tired and behind on sleep and my back was sore from all the picking up and putting down and being hung on and climbed on. I needed rest, but I'm happy the weekend is about over. I'm ready and excited for another week at camp! Prayers are welcome and appreciated :) I'll need it!
